Extractive Industries
These are those business that rely on mining or other harvesting of
natural resources. I'll cover here only the mining of precious metals,
fishing, and salt. Each of these industries was very nearly unique in
its markets, its labor, and in its technology. And none of them fit very
well into the stereotype of merchants and craftsmen.
