
The Department of Music at Boise State University is proud to present its resident
faculty ensemble "Les Bois Piano Quartet"; pianist, Del Parkinson,
violinist, Craig Purdy, violist, Linda Kline Lamar, and cellist, J. Wallis Bratt.
This ensemble of vibrant musicians presents the great works of the piano quartet
repertoire to a local, regional, and national audience.
Pianist, Del
Parkinson, began studying at the age of five in his
hometown of Blackfoot, Idaho. He holds a Doctor of Music degree
from Indiana University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Juilliard
School. He was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays grant for graduate
study in London, England. His London debut recital was on the
American Bicentennial Series. His New York debut recital in Carnegie
Recital Hall was sponsored by the Idaho Commission on the Arts.
His first appearance with orchestra came at the age of thirteen.
Other concerto performances have included the Guadalajara Symphony,
Indiana University Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Boise
Philharmonic, and the Utah Symphony.
Violinist, Craig Purdy,
Assistant Professor of Music at Boise State University, teaches
violin, coaches chamber music, teaches string pedagogy/literature,
and is director of the University Orchestra Program. Mr. Purdy
received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance from
the Eastman School of Music and his Master of Music Degree from
the New England Conservatory. His primary teachers have included
Charles Castleman and Masuko Ushioda. Further studies have been
with Joseph Silverstein, Sally O'Reilly, and the late Joseph Gingold.
He has studied chamber music with Leonard Shure, Louis Krasner,
and members of the Kolisch, Tokyo, Guarneri, Fine Arts, and Cleveland
Quartets.
Violist, Linda Kline Lamar, is newly appointed Assistant Professor of Viola at Boise State University. She is finishing up her Doctorate in Viola Performance from the University of Memphis. Until her move to Boise, Ms. Kline had been playing with the Memphis Symphony and was a faculty member at The Music Academy, Rhodes College, the Rhodes College Chamber Music Camp, and was part-time faculty at the University of Memphis. Ms. Kline received a BM degree from Northwestern University and a MM in viola performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music. She has also performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Erie Philharmonic, the Youngstown Symphony, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, and the Garth Newel Music Center. Her teachers include Heidi Castleman, Patrick Connolly, Lenny Schranze, and Peter Slowik.
Cellist, J. Wallis Bratt, Associate Professor of Music at Boise State University, teaches music theory/composition and cello. Mr. Bratt received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Idaho and his Master of Music from the University of Utah with post-Masters work at the University of Utah and the University of Oregon. His primary teachers included John Best, David Whisner, David Freed, Mary Ann Meredith, and Robert Hladky. Further studies have been with Leonard Rose, Zara Nelsova, Ron Leonard, and Nathaniel Rosen. Mr. Bratt has performed as soloist, chamber musician, and principal cellist with The Boise Philharmonic, Bach Festival Orchestra of Oregon, the Idaho Bicentennial Orchestra, SummerFest Orchestra, and The Boise Chamber Players.
